Torta Og Uban Pa (translation: Spongy Cake and Others) has become one of my favorite pastry shops even though I haven't been to their bakeshop in Catmon, Cebu which is in the North part of the Queen City of the South.
My addiction to their torta started when I saw a box of it at a supervisor's station in the office. At first, she doesn't want to share it with me since that was for her team. Luckily, one of her direct reports did not show up that is why she gave me that one last piece of big cupcake. When I took a bite, it was like a heaven-sent pastry that I couldn't stop eating until I noticed that I already consumed the entire piece. From then, I asked a lot of people in the office if someone is from Catmon, Cebu because I want to buy a box of it but one officemate, a local, told me that she is but can't go home yet until October. Well, I told myself that someday I will definitely have the chance to taste that torta again until last night a nice girl officemate named Yetz Larracochea bought me a box of 6 tortas from Torta Og Uban Pa and I was really smiling from ear to ear because I've been longing for it since the last time I get to taste it. Thank you so much, Yetz!
This is not just an ordinary kind of torta or mamon. It has a light crisp coating exterior, like broas or known as ladyfinger, that is really tasteful and it is more dense compared to a typical torta. In short, it is not fluffy. The interior is the best part because it is really soft and the sweetness is well-balanced that will let you ask for more.
Aside from the product itself, what I like about this pastry shop is their packaging. The torta is neatly placed in a box that has an attractive design and well-combined colors. Truly with their signature color and logo that I must say, can be exported to other places even outside the country.
I've heard from my officemates that they don't only sell torta but they also have a lot of cakes, cupcakes and other baked goodies. Knowing that I am a cupcake lover, it is one of my wishes to get to taste all of the flavors of their cupcakes and other pastries. If only they can put up a shop right in the heart of Cebu City, I will definitely be one of those who will stand in line just to buy their goodies. I was even drooling by just looking at their photos in Facebook.
How about you? Have you tried their torta and other baked goodies? Let me hear your thoughts.
