BUDDIES - Home of the Ultimate Burger Challenge, Green Orkid, Cebu City

"Yes we are guilty! We just killed our workout."

This is what I'd like to tell the whole world if I am with two of my best eating buddies in the office, Alic and Ivan. We have one common denominator and that is eating. If we are in a restaurant or even just at the pantry in our office, expect that we will consume, if not two to three cups of rice every meal, that will be two sets of viands plus desserts.

We'd like to challenge ourselves if we are really the ultimate food buddies. We came across a post from Mustachio about finishing a four-patty burger in 5 minutes at Buddies, the home of the ultimate burger challenge. So we set ourselves a date to see if we can conquer the ultimate burger.

When we arrived at their branch in Escario St., we asked the cashier if we can take the challenge and she gladly answered, "Sure, it's always available." Before we finally made up our minds of doing so, we checked their wall of fame to see how many survived the challenge but we were surprised that there were already 82 folks who were able to gobble up and conquer the ultimate burger challenge then we decide not to continue with it. We felt like we will not enjoy the food if we'll take it and besides, it's not worth it to take the challenge since a lot of folks already set their names for it.

Instead, we just ordered something that can really satisfy our cravings since we were already there. Here you go:

Their french fries is just like any ordinary restaurant or homemade fries, nothing is new. Alic ordered cheese sauce to match as a dip but when they serve it, it drowned the fries which was really good but only to find out, the cheese is just like something in a jar that you can buy from a grocery, again, nothing interesting about its flavor.

Ivan ordered their value meal which is a combination of spaghetti and two pieces of chicken. The pasta was good, they used angel hair pasta but not really impressive. I must say, Jollibee's spaghetti is better because it is meatier and the sauce tastes so good. Now the funny part was, the chicken. When it was served, we were laughing because Ivan reacted right away about the size and according to him, "it's a malnourished chicken!" It seems that Ivan did not really enjoy his experience there. I'm so sorry, Ivan. :-( Take a look at his order...

Alic and I ordered their Burger of the Month, the Juicy Lucy. According to the waitress, it has two patties on it, cheddar cheese, onions, tomatoes and cheese sauce. Surprisingly, it was really good and they are so generous with the cheese sauce. The patties are so tender and juicy plus you can really identify that the buns they are using are new because it's soft and it compliments well with the patties.

Honestly, I was so careful in eating this burger and I did not even finish the entire thing. I was trying to avoid my blood pressure to rise and not to experience hypertension but it won't stop me of course from eating so long as I have my metoprolol with me. Anyway, the experience that we had at Buddies was not really remarkable but we had fun. I will visit this place again to try their sizzling dishes and other menu. If you haven't been there, see for yourself and let me hear your thoughts too. You might want to dare yourself to take the ultimate burger challenge.

  2. Great post, Fred...
IMO lang ha, angel hair pasta works really well with light sauces and not with heavy bolognese sauce - so this would not work jud (but I'm no expert).
Also, that chicken! My goodness - P180?! Are you kidding me?
Sorry, I am in love with their burgers, but not the rest of their dishes. xx
